BUYING vs. ADOPTING

 Do you feel guilty for wanting to buy a purebred dog rather than adopting a dog from a shelter?  There is so much pressure on future dog owners these days to adopt rather purchase a puppy.  In the end you have to weigh all your options and decide which is the best choice for you.  You have every right to own the dog you choose.  There is no “one-size fits all” when it comes to breeds of dogs.  There are 170 or more AKC-recognized breeds of dogs, bred to suit many purposes and lifestyles. Purebred dogs have known breed characteristics.  This makes it easier for you to select the breed that is best suited to your lifestyle and family structure.  Buying a purebred puppy from a reputable breeder gives you peace of mind that your puppy is coming from a line of dogs that goes back the the very beginning of the breed.  You are not only getting a puppy-you are getting a Breeder-someone who will be there to answer questions for the life of your dog, and if life throws you a curve and for some reason you are unable to keep your dog, your Breeder will take that dog back. Your heart may tell you to adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue.  This is a wonderful thing.  Just be aware that you may not know any of the history behind that dog, and these dogs often need special patience or medical needs.  Giving such dogs a happy, secure life is incredibly rewarding.  There are many purebred Boston Terriers being fostered by rescue groups.  Please see my links page for contact information.
